On Friday morning, Nov. 7th at 7:16 AM, students at Adrian College were greeted with an alert informing them that the water in Estes Hall would be shut off. The notice urged students to find alternatives for restrooms or showers, with Caine or the Merillat Sports and Fitness Center being listed as options.
Just 13 minutes later, a follow-up message announced that Jarvis Hall would also be affected by the water shutoff. After 47 minutes from the first alert, a brief email informed students that water had been restored to both buildings.
In response to questions about the issue, the Director of Plant Services, Christopher Stiver, explained the cause in an email. “We came into a valve leaking on the supply line that feeds water to Estes Hall,” Stiver said. “The water was spraying on the boilers and flooding the room. Once we got the water shut off, it took an hour to replace the valve, and then water was restored to the building.”
The shutdown follows a similar water outage last year, raising concerns among students about whether the problem may continue.
