This year the College World held a small competition for students at Adrian College to show off their dorms and compete with each other to win prizes and to see how other students decorate their rooms.
Whether you were in a single or a double or whatever your room type was, you were allowed to join in. How it worked: we made a sign up form for students to participate and then meet with them to take a picture of their dorm. Now, they did not have to be in the room if they did not want to. This competition was optional, not mandatory because some students aren’t fans of showing their rooms and that is okay. For the contest there were 8 contestants. I knew there was not going to be a lot but that was better than 3. The competition lasted a week, and I made a voting form to vote on the best form of their choice and why they did. The top three winners win most of the votes from other students or staff or even family. Third place gets an A $20 gift card to the bulldog bulk store located in the student center (Caine). Second place gets a $25 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings, and first place gets a $50 gift card for Amazon plus a handmade certificate I made myself for having the best room here at Adrian College.
Our top 3 winners where third place was Shawn Witmer with 30 votes, our second place was Alivia McGuire with 43 votes, and our first was Gillian lles with 44 votes. Yikes! It was a tie. But congratulations again to our winners. The reason I made this competition was to get students to compete in something they normally do not do, and they can compete in something they felt comfortable doing in their own safe space. This was originally supposed to be in the bulldog game but due to time it was more of a trial year instead. A lot of students already agreed to this be in the games next year to open the community more.
And I get to be the host of the competition, how cool is that! Stay tuned for next year and who knows, you could win a prize. Thank you for this opportunity, I am so glad I was able to make students come out and have them compete in something they have never done before.
