Many athletes perform great in their sport on any given week, but they don’t always receive the credit they deserve. I have decided to start this segment interviewing some of these athletes coming off great weeks and giving them the credit they deserve. For the week that spanned between March 17th to March 23rd, David Kedrow, a catcher for the NCAA DIII Baseball team here at Adrian College, started in 3 of the team’s 4 games 2 resulting in wins, and in those 3 games, they scored a combined total of 39 runs. In the first game he participated in, the Bulldogs won 15-3 against Heidelberg University. The second game was a 5-10 loss in the first game of a 3 game series against Wittenberg University, in the second game of the Wittenberg series Kedrow had an off day in which the Bulldogs lost 4-12 but returned in game 3 of the series to prevent the sweep in which the Bulldogs won 19-14.
During this week, David Kedrow put up an incredible stat line that included him going 6-12 at the plate with 2 home runs, 8 RBI’s, 4 runs, and was walked once, he also showed his prowess on defense with 14 putouts and 1 assist in the field. Kedrow, being a catcher, led me to be very curious about looking at his offensive numbers, as most catchers are not seen as offensive threats, but that is not the case for him. This was a big question I knew I needed to ask in the interview and according to Kedrow he had stated that he was previously a second baseman for the Bulldogs but when he came back before his junior season the coaching staff asked him if he could make the change to catcher as it was a team need. When discussing the position change, David Kedrow stated, “I worked all fall on doing that (catching)… it didn’t just happen overnight, it was a lot of preparation.” He also stated that the hardest part when making the change was learning how to block balls in the dirt.
It was fun to be able to interview Kedrow and truly get into the mind of what the athlete was thinking. If you would like to see more of the interview the full video project has been posted to the Adrian College TV YouTube channel under the videos tab. I am looking forward to conducting more Bulldog Showcase interviews as the semester continues so be on the lookout for those, and don’t forget to keep supporting your Bulldog athletes as they represent the school.
