Abuzz, the Campus Connect app for Adrian College, shut down on Dec. 13. The mobile app and online platform connected the campus community by sharing events, school information, group activities, alerts, and local deals.
The app offered features like group chats, shared spaces for clubs and organizations, event calendars, local discounts, a campus marketplace, and information about upcoming events. Despite these features, many students did not download the app or just didn’t engage with it much.
“It’s honestly sad,” said Anna Montgomery, Adrian College’s Director of Student Life. “I loved collaborating with editors and the Engagement Team every year to promote campus life and events in the community.”
Tya Combs, an intern for the company, stated “As an intern, I had an immense amount of fun creating graphics, closing out local deals with local companies to sponsor some type of discount for us college kids, and even hiding stuff for scavenger hunts.”
The college recently surveyed students about their use of Abuzz and whether it should be replaced. Should the college consider replacing it with a new app?
