As the end of the semester approaches, there is only one more opportunity to donate blood. The Student Government Association is hosting its final blood drive on April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
All who can donate are welcome and encouraged to do so. The drive will be located in the Blue Gym. While appointments are preferred, walk-ins are also accepted. Two separate types of donations can be given, whole blood is the most common being when a donor donates a pint of blood. The second option is a double red donation where a donor is hooked up to a machine that safely allows a donor to donate two units of red blood cells with the machine returning plasma and white blood cells to the donor.
SGA blood drives are sponsored through the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan. Versiti’s mission is to enhance people’s lives through discovery, diagnosis, and treatment. Its vision is to expand the frontiers of patient health through the integration of science, medicine, and service, all through the use of donated blood. In addition to its center in Michigan, Versiti also has blood centers in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Greek Week points are available during the blood drive. Five points will be given to those who donate blood as well as those who volunteer for an hour. While anyone can donate blood and receive points, current SGA members get priority when it comes to volunteering. Any remaining openings can be filled with outside volunteers. Only five points per person are allowed for volunteering. On top of Greek Week points, this blood drive will include a raffle for Adrian College students who donate blood. Three prizes will be given out, a $100 Amazon gift card, a small speaker, and an Adrian College sweatshirt. Winners will be announced at the end of the drive and emails will be sent to the winners with details on how to receive their prize.
