Adrian College’s Chi Omega Mu Zeta chapter hosted its annual Make-A-Wish week fundraiser this past week, November 11 through November 17. The sorority hosted a different event each day of the week, ranging from Pie-A-Chi, a beloved classic, to their first-ever wiffle ball tournament. The whole ordeal was managed and planned out by sophomore Alyssa Kamm.
To start the week off, on Monday the Chi O’s hosted their Wish Pond in the Caine Student Center where students, staff, and anyone passing through could buy an assortment of fun pins and handmade bracelets or donate their spare change towards the cause. Once they donated, they could write their name on a star and throw it into the pond that was set up as a signifier of their generosity.
Next was a ping-pong tournament hosted at the Caine Student Center. The many comfy couches and chairs were moved aside to make room for four different tables where students were able to duke it out in a double-elimination bracket to see who was the ping pong master. The winner of this event was a fellow member of Greek Life, Luke Holowinski from the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
The first-ever Chi Omega Wish Week wiffle ball tournament happened Wednesday in the Blue Gym and did not disappoint, with a total of 6 teams showing up, ready to compete. The tournament was single elimination, with teams ranging from some of the fellow fraternities on campus to the NCAA softball and baseball teams making an appearance. NCAA baseball ended up coming away with the win, and when asked what gift cards they wanted as their prize, they gave it back to Make-A-Wish.
Without fail, Thursday came around and it was time for Pie-A-Chi! This event raked in over $600 for the fundraiser and got a wide range of involvement. Unlike past years, some students and staff were choosing to pay to pie each other instead of the sorority sisters. Campus Safety Officer Mark was seen having a blast pieing the sisters and getting pied himself.
To finish off the weekdays and lead into the weekend festivities, there was a waffle-eating contest with a total of 9 participants. The contestants showcased a variety of different methods when it came to how fast they could each scarf down some mini waffles, some dunking them in water and others dousing them in syrup. With an astounding total of 17 waffles eaten, Chi Omega freshman Alaina Sutermeister came away as the waffle-eating champion.
The weekend contained the reappearance of the Wish Pond at both the Senior Day football game and the Make-A-Wish night Men’s DIII hockey game. Sunday, they hosted their annual Make-A-Wish brunch, featuring a silent auction and a presentation done by Alyssa Kamm about why Chi Omega proudly supports Make-A-Wish.
Chi Omega isn’t the only Greek Life chapter to be hosting fundraisers, however. This week look out for the brothers of Adrian College’s fraternities in the Caine Student Center as they raise money for their philanthropy.
